Sonata No. 2 (Neuheit Trompete) Ewazen’s SONATA NO. 2 is a striking exception to the trumpet sonata literature and the composer’s own extensive catalog of trumpet music. Following a mysterious offstage cadenza, the soloist walks onstage for an expansive Lacrimoso movement. After a perky, energetic second movement, the 18-minute work concludes with another slow movement, bearing an optimistic spirit. Ewazen has noted this is a sonata for our time and a prayer for a life once again at peace.
