Ellipse Composed in 2002, Ellipse is above all a short expressive page in which the trumpet player can give free rein to his imagination and musicality. The piece opens with a melody in long values, then gradually evolves towards more complex rhythmic combinations. After a short climax, the opening theme comes back, gives the impression of wanting to develop, but ends up dying on a long low note. This work requires from the performer a great sense of instrumental colour, an implacable rhythmic precision and a scrupulous respect for rapid changes of nuances.
