Resisting Gravity (Trp. In C) (Neuheit Trompete) Since the beginning of time, man has wanted to defy gravity. That wish is so strong in the human soul, that many of us are having dreams in which we are able to fly. The ecstatic joy of being able to float freely like a bird lives somewhere deep inside. We know today that it takes enormous powers to make a plane lift off the ground; gravity is a strong and reluctant opponent. We have created several devices to make us float in the air: flying suits, hang gliders and gliders, devices that give us a limited time in the air, a loan of air time, before gravity once again hauls us back to earth. As a child I too dreamt that I could fly, but I also remember the dream in which this ability was taken from me, and after repeated attempts I had to accept that I no longer could levitate. Maybe this is something that art can release in man? The possibility to fly through the powers of thought and emotion, to release oneself from the usual boundaries, to redefine what´s possible. Man will always want to defy gravity, even if it´s on borrowed time. In art, one continue the struggle against gravity and continue to free oneself from the conventions of life.
