The North Star Suite (9Trp) Johann Sebastian Bachs “Christmas Oratorio” or “Weihnachtsoratorium” BWV 248 was composed from 1733-1734 and was one of three oratorios he composed for major religious feasts. This arrangement includes material from four parts of the oratorio: “Nun seid ihr wohl gerochen”, “Wie soll ich dich empfangen”, “Nun mögt ihr stolzen Feinde schrecken” and “Schlafe, mein Liebster”. Each of these movements are stitched together with new material to create a seamless through-composed work. Additionally, Bachs material has been re-imagined to create a new and modern sounding work for trumpet ensemble. The arrangement includes full score and parts: Solo E-flat Trumpet, B-flat Piccolo Trumpet, three Trumpets (parts for C and B-flat included) and four Flugelhorns. This piece was commissioned by Hamburg-based virtuoso trumpeter Matthias Höfs for inclusion on his 2021 album “Festive Trumpets for Christmas”. The album is available on all music streaming platforms and on compact disc from the Berlin Classics record label.
