Sonata da Chiesa This work was written for two young trumpet players from Neuchatel, Nicole and Jean-Jacques Aubert, who played the first performance at the Collegiale Church of Neuchatel, accompanied by the composer at the organ. The beginning Allegro is a kind of trio Intrada, where the two trumpets have a dialogue with the organ. The Ricercare on the melody of Psalm 92 («1t is good to give thanks to the Lord») is in strict contrapuntal style, followed by a quiet Interlude, which allows the unfolding and gradual development of a meditative melody played by one of the trumpets. The work finishes with colorful flourish, with the brass alternating in imitation, the organ maintaining the rhythmic progression until the final jubilant accents.
