Riffem and Blues (12 Pos) (This piece was inspired by two others: a military march for brass band called Jamies Patrol, and an untitled work by the jazz trumpeter Henry Lowther. Both of these are musical "hairpins", they begin quietly, increase in excitement in the middle, and then fade away - it’s a wonderful musical effect (and known as a hairpin because of the crescendo and diminuendo symbols on the music) After an initial "Hello" the Riff sets off and builds, only to be suddenly and unexpectedly taken over by a Blues section, in the manner of Dave Brubecks Blue Rondo a la Turk. After a climax at an interrupted cadence, a rhythmic section leads back to the point where the Riff itself was interrupted. From there on, the music fades, in different moods, falters, and says " Goodbye". Performance notes: Parts 9-12 are bass trombones. 1. Learn the Riff in C minor and A minor 2. The 7th part is probably the easiest 3. The Blues section solos are in the 5th and 8th parts)
