Romance op.36 (durand) With good reason, Sains-Saens is regarded as one of the most important French composers from the epoch between Hector Berlioz and Claude Debussy. His vast oeuvre ranges from stage works, church compositions, vocal and even military music, symphonies and symphonic poems to various small forms. The Romance Op.36 belongs to the latter group. Originally written for French Horn or Cello and piano, the master later conceived a version with a rich orchestral instrumentation.
