States of Mind Arranged for Brass Quintet. Scored for 2 trumpets • horn • trombone • tuba This set includes additional parts for horn in Eb, trombone in treble clef and Eb bass. This suite comprises three movements taking a lateral, rather than literal look at different states of mind. Firstly, Headspace offers a lot of room for the players to fall into by accident. Meditation uses the repetition of certain rhythmic shapes rather like mantras to still the mind, purging discordant thoughts from consciousness. Finally, Hothead has a suitably fiery and impetuous Latin undertone. The aim in writing these short pieces was to allow each of the players to have a share of the melodic line and to make the music both interesting and entertaining. ...
