Piece Heroique (423.11) ( Franck composed around 100 pieces for organ, but most of them are short, liturgical works. Many of them are meant for either organ or harmonium, and most of them are lacking a pedal part, those features making them very different from his twelve masterworks for organ. His Trois Pièces (1878) is one of these masterworks and in it, Franck brings a symphonic approach to the entire character of the pieces. The third piece, Pièce Heroique, displays beautifully this symphonic trend in Francks organ music and cries out for a brass tretament. Built as a rhapsody on two themes, this work is probably the best-known of all Francks twelve masterworks for organ. arranged by Michael Allen for 423.11 brass ensemble with percussion Trumpets in E flat, Trumpet in B flat (doubling piccolo) Trumpet in B flat, Flugelhorn, 2 Horns, 2 Tenor Trombones, Bass Trombone, Euphonium, Tuba, Timpani and Suspended Cymbal (one player)
