Russian Dance (Russian Dance was composed especially for Dean Wright (Principal Trumpet of the Welsh National Opera) and is a challenging work written for the advanced performer. This concert piece exudes all that embodies the Russian style of writing from the grandiose opening, the dark minor key to its more vituosic sections. The style is light, precise and merry but the dance also contains a number of contrasting slower, cantabile passages. Russian Dance ends with a sparkling cadenza displaying the versatility and different expressive qualities of the trumpet)
