Prometheus and the City of Fire Prometheus and the Gift of Fire was commissioned by tubist Roger Bobo, composed in 2009 and premiered by University of Wisconsin-Madison professor of trumpet John Aley with the UW-Madison Tuba-Euphonium Ensemble under the direction of the composer. It is the first sequel to the composers earlier work based on Greek mythology, The Liberation of Sisyphus for solo tuba and tuba/euphonium ensemble (Editions Bim TU9 - 1999 - 10’50’’), also commissioned and recorded by Bobo. The work loosely depicts the improvement in the lot of mortal man when presented with fire, stolen from the Titans by Prometheus.
