Young Persons Guide to the Brass Quintet Young Persons Guide to the Brass Quintet is a theme, variations and fugue based on the children’s nursery rhyme, ‘This old Man’. It was written as a piece to perform for children to teach them about the instruments in the brass quintet, and in the piece each of the four instruments, french horn, pair of trumpets, trombone and tuba, have their own solo variations. There is an optional narration written which can either be spoken by by each player in turn , or can be spoken by an extra narrator in addition to the players in the quintet.
