The Sorceres Apprentice (523.11.Perc.) The Sorcerers Apprentice by French composer Paul Dukas was composed in 1897 and was based on Goethes poem of the same name. The symphonic poem format was becoming very popular at the time with other great composers, with this work following the storyline of the poem rather closely. The music, which was already a popular concert piece rocketed to stardom when it was included as one of the eight animated segments of the great Disney movie Fantasia conducted by Leopold Stokowski. Jim Tempest has done a brilliant job of arranging this 7-minute slightly abridged version of the work for 12-part Brass Ensemble (of advanced performers), Timpani & Percussion (played by one musician). Instrumentation is for 5 Trumpets (including Piccolo in B-flat & Flugelhorn), 2 Horns, 3 Trombones, Euphonium, Tuba, Timpani & Percussion.
