Jealousy (414.01) This arrangement is for the standard ten piece set up of 4 trumpets, 1 horn, 4 trombones and tuba. This set includes additional parts for horn in Eb, trombones in Bb treble clef and Eb bass. Jealousy is probably the most popular of all tango parodies. First published in Denmark in 1926 with words by Winifred May, it soon became a world-wide hit. Try to convey the drama of the dance in your interpretation. Take it seriously but feel free to ham it up when necessary, eg trombones in bar 152 onwards. Indeed the whole presto section (bar 145 onwards) should be manic, just like Spike Jones, until the big finish at bar 178. Trumpet 1 in bar 9 should take time over the cadenza, especially in bar 14. The muted trumpets 2&3 at bar 83 should be strong; dont try to hide. Trumpet 3 at bar 99 should sound like Harry James. Generally pay close attention to articulation and dynamics.
