Fum, Fum, Fum (414.01) (Fum, Fum, Fum (pronounced foom, foom, foom) is a traditional Catalan Christmas carol. It is thought to have originated in the 16th or 17th Century. The name, however, is not a Catalan word or phrase and is considered to be an onomatopoeia of the sound of the strumming of a stringed musical instrument. With its vigorous rhythm and this suggestion of strummed flamenco guitars the original dance purpose of carols is evident. Performance note: Play very rhythmically but dont get too heavy. A tambourine is suggested but a small drum or castanets could also be used. In addition players who are not required at any time may clap along (or, in the louder passages, yell) in flamenco style.)
