Paperclip Souls (Trompete in C/Es.Bassposaune) Paperclip Souls was written for Ben Van Dijk and Matthias Höfs. This challenging duet is about two individuals who connect to each other like two paperclips. It’s a story about soulmates, bounded for life. The piece features solo moments for both players and has 3 different style movements. The first part is a characteristic question-answer dialogue, where both instruments claim their own personality. In the middle part, both players grow toward each other and get connected passionately. In the last movement, both themes are combined but in a 7/8 measure. Although the timing and frasing gets more complex, the connection between both parts never weakens and keeps existing till the very end. A challenging but rewarding duet, written for 2 extraordinary brass players in history.
